Each week, we explore Dr. Gafney's brilliant translations of a Jewish text and Psalms. Our goal is to bring greater awareness of the invisible and visible women of the Bible. In this effort, we also wish to share our admiration and awe of Dr. Gafney's brilliant academic work and translation.

Dear Reader and Explorer,
There are so many exciting, rich and meaningful stories in the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures. No matter what you believe...no matter your theology...
... these stories can bring joy and meaning.
We invite you to learn with us. Exploring these stories can bring joy to your own life as an individual and as a part of community.
On a deeper level, these stories are a part of the Christianity which is in the foundation of the United States. And since Christianity is rooted in the United State's political and social system it has been used and misused to create systems of power. Sometimes, these systems are built on the love which is foundational in Christianity. More often, these systems are built on exclusive
and hateful ideologies.
UU Bible Study's main goal is to provide a platform of learning and exploration of the Hebrew and Christian stories. When we
better understand these stories and their historical and current context, we will be better prepared to challenge those who use these stories to exclude and hate.
You do not have to believe in God, Jesus, or Christian creeds to gain great wisdom and knowledge from these stories. They are ancient, mysterious, and often beautiful and wise. Christianity is built on both Christian and Hebrew scriptures. In Christianity, they are called the New Testament and the Old Testament. We will study both to find their beauty, wisdom and meaning in a historically complex society.
I hope you will join us.
