Dear Reader and Explorer,

It is no surprise that the very Christian roots of Unitarian and Universalism in the United States is the same religion and belief system that many Unitarian Universalist scorn.  This is not true for all, but it is true for a large section of the Unitarian Universalist community. 

And with good cause. 

 Since Christianity is rooted in our country’s political and social system it has been used and misused to create systems of power.  Sometimes, these systems are built on the love  which is foundational in Christianity.  More often, these systems are built on exclusive
and hateful ideologies. 

UU Bible Study's main goal is to provide a platform of learning and exploration of the Hebrew and Christian stories which are the bedrock of the Christian faith.   When we
​better understand these stories and their historical and current context, we will be better prepared to challenge those who use these stories to exclude and hate.   

You do not have to believe in God, Jesus, or Christian creeds to gain great wisdom and knowledge from these stories.  They are ancient, mysterious, and often beautiful and wise.  Christianity is built on both Christian and Hebrew scriptures.  In Christianity, they are called the New Testament and the Old Testament.  We will study both to find their beauty, wisdom and meaning in a historically complex society.

Follow the Weekly Blog

     Each week, we will explore a theme of Hebrew and Christian story and its beauty when read in context. The blog may explore one single story, person, or contextual element that will bring new meaning to understanding these ancient stories.  There will also be interviews with Unitarian Universalists and other spiritual and religious leaders exploring their favorite stories. 
     The hope is that each week's blog will expand your understanding of stories.  You are encouraged to leave questions and thoughts in an effort to engage in rich dialogue.  I may be the website's facilitator but everyone who visits brings wisdom that is welcome.

Consider joining us for an online class.  

Are you looking for some short-term learning opportunities which will guide you through Hebrew and Christian stories?  These online classes may be what you are looking for.  In the Fall of 2023, all the classes are one session.  As we study the stories, people and faith; we will look at the context surrounding the story.
  • When was this story told?  
  • Who is the storyteller?  
  • Who was the audience?  
  • What was the geographic location?
  • How did the story changed through its years of telling?  
  • We will always look at what we bring to the story?  
  • What is our context and how do we influence the way we view the stories as they are told today? ​
