![]() Dear Reader and Explorer,
It is no surprise that the very Christian roots of Unitarian and Universalism in the United States is the same religion and belief system that many Unitarian Universalist scorn. This is not true for all, but it is true for a large section of the Unitarian Universalist community. And with good cause. Since Christianity is rooted in our country’s political and social system it has been used and misused to create systems of power. Sometimes, these systems are built on the love which is foundational in Christianity. More often, these systems are built on exclusive and hateful ideologies. UU Bible Study's main goal is to provide a platform of learning and exploration of the Hebrew and Christian stories which are the bedrock of the Christian faith. When we better understand these stories and their historical and current context, we will be better prepared to challenge those who use these stories to exclude and hate. You do not have to believe in God, Jesus, or Christian creeds to gain great wisdom and knowledge from these stories. They are ancient, mysterious, and often beautiful and wise. Christianity is built on both Christian and Hebrew scriptures. In Christianity, they are called the New Testament and the Old Testament. We will study both to find their beauty, wisdom and meaning in a historically complex society. I hope you will join us. -Michele Grove Check out our online classes
