Course Description
If you are interested in an introduction to the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures, why not start at the beginning? This class will examine the two creation stories found in Genesis One and Genesis Two.
The learning group will gather for one 2-hour session (with a 10-minute break). When you gather with others, you receive additional learning through questions and conversations.
Each story was first told to small gatherings in the oral tradition. Each has its own unique heritage and meaning.
Each story will open your eyes to a few of the good questions to ask when studying scripture. We will look at the similarities and differences in the stories and discuss their importance for the audience in which they were each written. This will lead us to reflect a bit more deeply on their value for today's reader.
There will be time for you to reflect on your own perspective of these stories and look at them in light of the first eleven chapters of Genesis. Each of us brings a bit of ourselves to its reading and it rewarding to see how our own life situation enriches the reading of story.
As an added bonus, participants will get a feel to the rhythm and syntax of the Hebrew scripture.
